New twist in fabled Ateneo-DLSU rivalry (Nick Giongco)

The fabled cagers of La Salle and Ateneo are going at it one more time this Sunday.

For a change, however, there’ll be no major title at stake nor a final four or semifinals slot to fight for when the Green Archers and the Blue Eagles troop to the court at the Araneta Coliseum.

"It’s going to be a benefit game," said former Cabinet secretary Philip Juico, an avid La Salle alumnus.

The encounter is dubbed as "Basketball Game for Truth."

Archers head coach Franz Pumaren, who is also busy training the national youth team, bared that it won’t exactly be a strict La Salle versus Ateneo match-up since the two teams will lend out six players each to play alongside rival dribblers.

"We will be sending six players to Ateneo in exchange for six of their players," said Pumaren, who will be back next season to defend the UAAP crown.

Norman Black, who calls the shots for Ateneo, has already been informed about the game and is also looking forward to the game at the Big Dome.

"We will be mixing Ateneo and La Salle players on both sides and we are ready to play," said Black, who holds regular practices with the Eagles "all year round" to make sure the team doesn’t miss a single beat.

"The lineup hasn’t been finalized yet," added Black, who will be back to holler out instructions from the bench.

Last year, the two schools battled it out five times in the run-up to the finals that went down in league history as the most intense head-to-head clash ever with the gate attendance of each game leaving sports officials grinning from ear-to-ear.

Benta(?)

sorry kung magulo ang post kong to. at siguro walang kwenta. hehehe. wala kasing magawa eh, kaya kung anu-ano tuloy pinupost ko. tsk. tsk.

 

I really hate it when people say that the game between dlsu & ue is  benta or luto. I have read threads in the net saying that dlsu people or whoever, paid the referees to manipulate(?) the game. Or to give bad/unreasonable calls to ue [i guess].

Pansinin niyo. Kapag nanalo ang La Salle ang daming "rumors" na nagsi-circulate sa internet, ibang schools na benta yung game. Hindi ba nila pwedeng tigilan ang pagsasabi na binabayaran ng La Salle yung referee o yung mga players. I mean "kung" binabayaran man ng La Salle yung mga players ng ibang school, hindi ba mas nakakahiya yung player ng kabilang school. kasi kinagat niya yung offer? Nakakahiya siya kasi di niya iniisip yung pangalan ng school niya.

Actually, di ito yung first time na narinig ko na benta yung game. Last year nung finals din, sinasabi ng ibang tao na binayaran daw ng UST ung isang star player ng UE. Huh? Di ako naniniwala. Tapos! Bakit ka naman kasi nagpaka-tanga at pumayag kang bayaran ng other school? Tsaka imposibleng mangyari yun! Kasi hindi gawain yun ng UST. They played fair and square last year.

Lagi na lang kapag natatalo ang UE, may lumalabas na "benta" issue. Pikon sila. Di nila matanggap ang pagkatalo!

Anyway back to season 70.

Hindi naman siguro "luto" o minanipulate yung game. I mean, ganun na lang ba ka-desperado ang DLSU na makuha yung championship trophy? Tsaka kung mapapanuod mo yung game kahapon, parang hindi yun yung UE team na tinambakan ang DLSU nung first round at di rin sila yung team na naka-14-0 nung eliminations.

DLSU played well. Defense and offense. They won the fair and square. The DLSU Green Archers really deserve the championship trophy. They/We won, so tama na. Just move on!

Stop making up stories. Stop bashing DLSU. And just accept the fact that DLSU won. Kung di pa rin nagsisink-in na natalo kayo, then wag niyong sabihin na binayaran ng La Salle ang mga referees para manalo sila.

OO nangyayari ang bentahan ng game, pero mali naman ata na yun ang gawing reason kung bakit natalo ang UE!
