Seedbook 51: Today I Learned...

I borrowed my friend's laptop and another friend of mine borrowed it and checked her multiply. Then on her homepage I saw her Visual DNA. It was sort of a personality test so I tried it. The result was, I was a DREAMER. I was kind of shocked by the results. I am a dreamer. Cool!

This is the RESULT. Try it, it's so much fun! :)

Seedbook 50: Today I learned...

Today I learned that there is such a place here in Manila called Agripina Circle. It is located in the United Nations Avenue and Rizal Park. I just learned it in my HUMAART class. I was amazed because when I saw the picture in his powerpoint presentation I thought it was in Washington D.C.. because it really looks like it was surrounded by the White House and other buildings.

This is Agripina Circle

To my Future Boyfriend

To my future boyfriend:

I have been looking for you for the longest time. I have met so many guys before you, but none of them seemed to fit my description of a "perfect/ideal" boyfriend. Many of them fell short of my expectations and none of them have seen me as special as the way you see. One can say that I am expecting a lot from guys but seriously, I'm not. I am just looking for someone who I can introduce to my family and relatives . Someone who would accept me as a whole; someone who would take me even if I act/talk stupidly, someone who would laugh with me even at the silliest things, someone who would see through me, someone who would still love me even if I have done something wrong and someone who would support me in everything I want and in everything I do.

Right now, I can finally say that I have found "the one". I am happy that you have seen through me and have still loved me even for my imperfections. After the long wait, finally, my prince charming already has come. He may not be riding a white horse, he may not have a castle in a far away land, I am still happy to have you. No words can explain what I feel. Thank you for accepting me, thank you for loving me as a whole. Thank you and I love you!

Seedbook 42: Gela, Gela Let Down Your Long Hair

I can compare my day with Rapunzel. Like Rapunzel, I was waiting for something to happen. I was so used to my life and I wanted something new. My friend was actually the one who told me that that day can be compared to Rapunzel's story because I was talking about something for the whole day.

Seedbook 41: The Lost Gela

I felt like as if I was the lost sheep in the parable of the Lost Sheep. I was lost in roomfull of COS people. I only know a few of them. I have gone astray from my "sheperds", which are my friends.

Seedbook 40: Gela Pinya

Just like Pina, I was complaining a lot that day. I was complaining a lot of things; that the computer didn't have net, that I was tired and other irrelevant things. I also think that need a lot of eyes just like the pinya, because sometimes I am having a hard time looking for things.

Seedbook 39: Gela Tamad Part II

I did not do anything for this day. I just stayed in front of the computer for quite a long time. Surfing the net, eating, watching television and sleeping. That was about it. That was my "routine" for that day. I was done doing my homeworks and other school-related stuff, so I did the best thing, just chilled.

Seedbook 38: Gela and The beanstalk

One afternoon I went to my tita and interviewed her about several things on the issue about the economic crisis that has been happening this past few months. Like Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk, I "stole" some information about the insurance company where my aunt was working. hehe

Seedbook 37: Gela Tamad

It was Friday morning and I didn't want to go to school. I was thinking of just staying in bed. Like Juan Tamad I just want to stay there and wait for things to happen. But as a responsible student I went to class but did nothing but read different fan fix. After I have finished everything I have to do in school, i went home and did nothing.

Seedbook 36: The Prodigal Friend

I thought that I was part of the bible story about the Prodigal Son. actually, not prodigal son but prodigal friend. I was thinking of going to another friend's class, I asked her if I can sit-in in their class, but I ended up not in their class but in my barkada's statlit class. It was not really a good idea to leave my other friends behind. I thought that they're mad at me for "desserting" them, but they welcomed me wholeheartedly.

In the light of the recent unprecedented stock market volatility, and its impact on the share prices of every company, many of the people are now thinking twice if they are going to invest their money in insurance to secure their future. Many are afraid that what happened to AIG and Philam Life will happen to other insurance companies. It made people think that if it happened to AIG, then it would also happen to other much smaller companies. In these difficult circumstances, some insurance companies’ strengths are highlighted.

I got a chance interview my auntie, Myrna Reyes, who works for one of the insurance companies here in the Philippines. It was a short but knowledgeable interview. She was kind enough to explain to me things that I did not understand and never heard of.

I first asked her if the number of people buying insurance lessened. She told me that compared to the figures before, the people were know hesitant if they should be buying insurance with the market’s current situation. Although the numbers have dropped, but not enormously, their agents are still able to ‘sell’.

Mrs. Reyes also told me that if there are people who are uncertain in buying insurance policies, there are also risk-takers. They buy insurance at a very low rate so that when the market stabilizes then the interest rates will also go up. She explained to me that most insurance today are now tied-in with interests, they are invested in other companies.

Instead of selling the usual insurance policies, they are selling “traditional life insurance”. With the traditional life insurance, “the policy holders are more guaranteed and protected. They are guaranteed to get a certain amount in the future.” She said that “With the current market, it is much safer to ‘invest’ your money in insurance, rather than to ‘invest’ your money in banks. In banks you are not guaranteed of anything. If you pull out your investments you do not gain anything, and sometimes you even lose.”

Did the economic crisis directly affected the company you are working for”, I asked her. She said that in some ways the economic crisis in the United States have affected their company but not directly. She told me that their company, in spite of the current market situation, still has an “AAA” rating (Standard & Poors Agency standards), they are one of the only two in the world to hold that rating.

My auntie said that, “Our company remains conservatively reserved, has a high quality balance sheet and strong leading franchises around the world.” She also said that, “Since quarter end, equity markets have deteriorated further which will have an unfavorable impact on the company’s capital ratios unless these markets recover. The company continues to manage its regulatory capital, however, it has no plans to issue common equity.” She told me that their company has reduced its security lending activities in light of heightened market uncertainty.

I also asked her if people are now converting their insurance plans to cash. She answered that there are few people who are already thinking of converting their insurance plans into cash. But she said that they assure them that their company is “fully self-funded”.

She said that since their company is under the insurance commission, their policy holders are rest assured that whatever happens they will get something because their the company “businesses generate enough cash flow to sustain operations without being dependent on the commercial paper markets or other short-term funding arrangements.” She also emphasized that since they under the insurance commission, the rules are much stricter than those companies who are not under the commission.

Autobiographical Survey II

.............................................................................................................................................
.............................................................................................................................................

Identity

1. "I was never an achiever ever since I was a kid. I was more of the normal average person in our family. My cousins were good in whatever field they choose. Almost all of them were part of the creme section or the second section, while the poor me just belonged to an average section. My mom favored my cousins, which is her pamangkins, more and always compared me with them, she would always tell that I should do well in my studies so that I'll be like this cousin of mine. I always felt insecurity and jealousy towards my cousins, I also had the feeling of indifference. I had the feeling that I didn't really belong. Slowly I lost my confidence and I felt that I didn't really fit in.

2. Insights/Themes

    - The feeling of indifference can be a motivation to a person.
    - Insecurity can help you become a much better person.
    - Almost all people feel insecurity even those people whom you think are perfectly fine.
    - Some people wouldn't realize your worth until you have proven them that you can do something.
    - Your family members are your biggest "competitors".

3. Types of people:

    - People who not taken for granted
    - People who some people see as crazy
    - People who are very idealistic
    - People who are talkative but what they're talking about has meaning
    - Sisters who always tell their parents on what their siblings are doing wrong
-Girls who are clumsy but light-hearted

Seedbook 35: The Stalker Returns

And so I followed Aling Toyang. She carried a lot of things, seems like she came from the market. I was actually thinking of helping her but I stopped myself because someone came up to her, her daughter-in-law. Then I heard that they came form Divisoria, that explains all the plastic bags within the plastic bags she was carrying. She's a frail, old woman. Aling Toyang must be te same age as my Lola Linda, but she still looked peaceful. Unlike other old women, her face is serene, she probably doesn't have as much problem as other women have. As I followed the two women, I got to know more about their lives. Unknowingly, I just found myself riding the jeep where they were. The jeep then moves and after a few minutes I heard them talking about their relative. They'll give the things they have to their relative. And then they got off the jeep, so I knew they were to going to that relative of theirs.

Seedbook 34: The Stalker Returns

Nilo was there standing alone in front of the building. While looking at him, I thought I saw my brother in him. He's a not-so-tall kid, probably around 12-14. Nilo is a student who just came from school and it seems that he was waiting for someone. He's waiting for his mom, as he was told earlier that they wouldgo home together. He needs to fetch his mom because his mom is carrying a lot of things and she needs some help.

While he wiated, I also waited. And then finally, I saw a smile draw across his face. I am right. He was waiting for his mom. Then together they looked for a ride home.

Seedbook 33: The Stalker Returns

I thought she was a student from afar. Mina looked like one, I thought I just saw her come out a certain school. She looked like a normal non-working girl. After searching for a company that would hire her, Mina was finally hired by a company. She looked so stressed but is contented that finally she can go home and tell her parents the good news. It looks like she's already going home, to tell her family she already got work and to rest her tired muscles from walking all day long trying to find work.

Seedbook 32: The Stalker Returns

A woman in uniform on a Sunday, interesting. Lisa just came out HBC. She assists the customers all day and she has to deal with different kinds of people all day long. Her work tests her patience. She works in HBC 7 days a week, 8 hours a day and that is all for her kids. And another day has passed in her boring, monotonous life. Lisa looks forward to going home and seeing her kids, the single that she has been for 5 years, she's already used to taking care of her children even if it is hard. She rode a tricycle going home. And that was the last thing I remembered of her.

Seedbook 31: The Stalker Returns

I went to Museo Pambata because we'll be having our orientation about our community service. Then I saw this woman sitting in one of the beside a tree. She was busy sitting there, minding her own business when I stalked her.

When I got to Museo she was the first person I saw. She was texting someone. Probably waiting for someone, probably her lover. She was dressed simply. No accessories, nothing fancy. She was sitting there for a while and did not moved to a different place or anything. I got bored watching her from afar.

I know I wouldn't get any information anymore. So I just left her. When we went out of Museo she wasn't on her spot. Looks like she got tired of waiting for that person.

Seedbook 30: The Stalker Returns

He sat there alone, I heard he's going somewhere in Quezon City. He told the driver he would go down in EDSA but the driver told him that he would not use that route so instead, he said he'll just go down in Hi-Tops (Supposedly Hi-Top, this made me laugh but I stopped myself not wanting to get the "look").

He rode in front of PWU, so this gave me an idea that he is a professor there, plus the fact that he has an ID and the way he dressed already gave me a clue about his profession. So he's there in the fx because he was going somewhere, probably he's going to meet someone, a colleague of some sort.

They will have a conversation about their students. On how much their students give them headaches and that they'd rather resign than to die than have a heart attack will teaching. Then they would question themselves why did they even choose that profession, why didn't they just chose a different profession. In the end they would realize that that is what they really want. They'd laugh about there "foolishness" and realize it's time to go home.

Seedbook 29: The Stalker Returns

I was going down the LRT Blumentritt station. I was scanning the see of faces, looking for an interesting person to stalk. Then I found an interesting prospect. Let's call him Nonoy. He is there because he is waiting for a jeepney ride home. He just came from a friend's house, or should I dare say, girlfriend. He took her girlfriend home, to assure himself that his girlfriend is not going anywhere and she's not going to meet any guy. He's the jealous type of boyfriend, a possessive one. But his girlfriend is fine with it, she's also the same, she feels really special when Nonoy brings her home.

Nonoy is the type of high school stud who goes to school without bringing anything. When I saw/followed him, he didn't have anything. As in anything, and to think that he was wearing a uniform. He just brought himself, his wallet and his phone to school. He is one the 'parasites' in school (he just borrows/asks for everything).

He is there, like I have said earlier because he was waiting for a jeepney ride home. He plans to go home and talk to his girlfriend for hours on the phone. And I was right, right about the going home part. We rode the same jeepney; he went off the jeep earlier than I am, so I saw where he was going.

Is this how Ateneans have fun?

I have an Atenean friend but she doesn't have fetish for la salle, i mean we just laugh about the rivalry. it's not much of a big deal for us.
BUT THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER IMAGINED THAT OTHER ATENEANS WOULD DO. i am not generalizing. Grabe! wala ako masabi. tss. i have lost my respect for ateneo, but i still love melissa no matter what. hahaha sorry awin tinatamad na akong iedit kaya kinopya ko na ng buo.

copied as is from Awin...

Okay. I've seen these pics from some of my friends and I was just so fucking pissed about this.
No, I'm not pissed with the school, but I'm pissed of the gesture or action they have done.
See for yourself.

So this is how you celebrate victory? Burn the opponents names? Is that respect? A bonfire of DLSU players' names! Wohooo! FUN! Looks so good! Feels good! Why not burn them alive na lang kaya di ba?

If ever this is true and I think IT IS TRUE, then you guys (who patronized this act and those who are behind this) should be ASHAMED of yourselves and better do something about this.

Thank god I'm a Lasallian... ANIMO LA SALLE!
*PS.. I didn't even mention the name of your school cause I give respect...
Lasallians, go ahead and react to this. It's your right. This is just too much bullshit.

MAS MASARAP MAGING LASALISTA!

Seedbook 21: Detour

.............................................................................................................................................
.............................................................................................................................................
............................................................................................................................................

Earlier, I rode a car coming from some place. It's really a new experience (hahaha, natawa ako dito), but I was used to commuting coming from there. But it was different today. The feeling was not really new, it was just the feeling of being safe. I felt safe while going home, unlike before where I would be praying and asking God to protect me from harm and also to not encounter the bad guys, i.e, snatcher, hold-up-er, etc. The feeling of homey.

We took the not-so-familiar path. Even if we always take that road, I still had a hard time memorizing the place. I'm really good at directions but this is one of the places that I am really having a hard time familiarizing. So for me, everytime we go there, this path is "new".

I had this weird feeling as we were taking the not-so-unfamiliar path. But like as have said earlier, the feeling of security was overcoming me at that time.

And I just lost my train of thought...

Seedbook 20: Claire's Room

Hindi ko talaga alam kung ano ang pumasok sa isip ko at pinasok ko ang kanilang kwarto. Nagtataka ako sa sarili ko, ano bang nakita kong interesting sa kanya at pumasok ako sa kanyang kwarto. Siguro dahil may kakaiba sa kanya.

Kaka-iba. Hmm.

May puti itong pintura, malaking kama, may terrace, may banyo. Basta malaki ito at maganda. Yung kama niya malaki at makapal yung cushion, puti yung mga bedsheet. May malalaki at fluffy na unan.

Yung cabinet niya/nila, built-in.

Seedbook 19: Nena's Room

I saw her walking in the mall with her family. She's probably 10-12 years old. She's a obedient child, when her parents told her to hold her little sister, she followed them.  I find her really her simple and sweet. She's "mahinhin".

I can see her room. Her whole room is colored light pink and full of stuffed toys. She sleeps in a bunk bed full of teddy bears and dolls. She has a built-in cabinet full of cute clothes. In her room, there's a little study table. On top of that table are crayons, papers and notebooks. She has a little stool in front of her table.

Her bed is colored, what else, pink. Her pillows are fluffy and are colored white. Nena's room is not really that neat, there are things scattered on the floor.

The windows on her room are not that big, the curtains are sheer.
